St. Angelina Community Health and Rehabilitation Centre (SACHARC)

Background

St. Angelina Community Health and Rehabilitation Centre (SACHARC) is a not for profit organization that was formed in 2011 by Martin & Sr. Angelina Buyeyi who mobilized a group of other women after making a thorough research on the facets that deeply affect vulnerable women/girls and OVCs in Manafwa and Namisindwa district respectively.

Its suffix to note that this organization was founded on the premise to address the appalling condition of the poor pregnant women that could not access ante natal, post natal and neo-natal services and this led to serious catastrophic consequences hence putting their lives at very great risk. The sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of women and girls between the ages of 10-25 was in an appalling state. Among others the rate at which young girls are being abused (GBV/VAW ) within the area thus increased rate of abortions and deaths, teenage school dropout, early and or forced marriages thus prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS being too high, and due their vulnerability and in a bid to address their financial foothold there has been high rate of these adolescent girls crossing to Kenya in search of jobs and even international sponsored travels programs by labor exporters that further subjected these girls to sex trade especially in the Middle East among others...

Gender Based Violence

St. Angelina Community Health and Rehabilitation Centre - SACHARC , aims to build a movement of change activists to tackle gender based violence and other harmful traditional practices.

Adolescent girls program

This targets girls to go and stay in school; provide alternative learning opportunities for those who have dropped out and skills training as well as livelihood options. Lack of access to basic education to girls is promoting the vicious cycle of poverty. .

Economic empowerment

This is through a Rural as well as urban Micro Credit schemes . T he main goal of the micro credit of SACHARC is to create the opportunity for self - reliance and promot ing durable development by providing the financial and technical

Women participation

The Center seeks to ensure women’s empowerment and dignity within the community through participation in decision making process. No program can play fruitful role for the development of the people by keeping the ordinary people out of the development process.

There has been inadequate sensitization on the SRHR. This is compounded by the low levels of formal education , which are necessary to enhance women and girls make the right choices with their bodies and liv e optimal and fulfilling lives ,
